What we hold true

Worshipping Together, Growing in Faith

Our Biblical Foundation: Rooted in the Living Word

The beliefs and doctrine of the Christian Reformed Church are based entirely on the Holy Bible—God’s infallible written Word contained within the 66 books of the Old and New Testaments. We believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God and that it stands as the supreme and final authority in all matters of faith and life.

Foundational Verses

As you come to him, the Living Stone–rejected by humans but chosen by God and precious to him–you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. For in Scripture it says: “see, I lay a stone in Zion, a chosen and precious cornerstone, and the one who trusts in him will never be put to shame. Now to you who believe, this stone is precious. But to those who do not believe, the stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone.” 1 Peter 2:4-7 (NIV)

The Standards of Our Faith

We believe that the Old and New Testaments of the Bible are the inspired Word of God—our only infallible rule for faith and life.

As a Christian Reformed Church, our beliefs are firmly guided by these historic confessions:

The Lord's Supper

What is the Lord's Supper all about?

The night before Jesus was crucified, he shared bread and wine with his disciples as part of a meal, and instructed them to “do this in remembrance of me” (Mark 14: 22-25; Luke 22: 19, 20; I Cor. 11: 23-26).  The bread and wine we consume during the Lord’s Supper symbolize the body of Christ broken for us, and the blood of Christ poured out for the forgiveness of our sins.  It’s a powerful and physical way to regularly be reminded of Christ’s loving sacrifice for us.

Who is welcomed to participate in the Lord's Supper?

We teach that the Lord’s Supper is a sacrament given to nourish believers in remembrance of Christ’s sacrifice. Accordingly, all baptized members who show age-and-ability-appropriate faith are welcomed to the Lord’s Table to participate.

Baptism

The sacrament of baptism reminds us and assures us of a profound truth:  as surely as water washes away dirt from the body, so certainly Christ’s blood and his Spirit wash away…all our sins (Heidelberg Catechism, Q&A 69).

In the Christian Reformed Church, baptism is performed by sprinkling water on the head of the person being baptized. We baptize infants of believing parents, as well as children and adults who join the church but have not previously been baptized in a Christian church.
